This is a great traditional cafe in Rio that does really good beef and has a very lively atmosphere. Most of their meals are for two – and are enormous even at when sharing – so bring someone to share it with.
Anki is a really great flashcard timed repetition learning system that runs on your computer, on the web and on your phone. There are thousands of sets of shared flashcards or you can easily create your own. Great for learning a language.
Gorgeous cake, beautifully shot video.

This is a fascinating excerpt from a report written by a collection of American scientists on how to designate a nuclear waste site in such a way that the marking would still be effective 10,000 years from now. It’s a complicated problem with many levels discussing language, pictorial warnings, enormous public works and how to avoid mistaking terror for honor.
“In the end, the most effective marker will be a limited amount of sickness & death caused by the radioactive waste”
I’ve just been reading David Foster Wallace’s short story collection Oblivion and was reminded of this masterful essay on the Maine Lobster Festival.
